ECW Group recently commenced an extensive ground investigation program for BHP’s Ministers North Project, successfully navigating a range of complex challenges throughout delivery.
Operating in a remote and demanding environment required detailed planning and strong execution. This included the development of site-specific emergency response procedures, such as remote rescue planning and emergency drills to facilitate helicopter medivac in the event of an incident, given the difficult access conditions faced by site ESO crews.
Adverse weather also presented significant challenges, with heavy rainfall and flooding events temporarily restricting access to several locations. These risks were effectively managed through the experience of ECW’s field teams, who closely monitored conditions and implemented proactive stop-work measures to ensure personnel safety.
Additional project complexities included working within the extreme Pilbara environment, securing powerline and rail corridor permits, implementing traffic management plans, and coordinating access with other mining lease holders. The team also managed the identification and reporting of previously undocumented heritage areas, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Extensive track clearing was undertaken to safely access test pit locations and establish drill pads, demonstrating ECW’s capability to deliver efficient, compliant, and safe outcomes in challenging conditions.
